Feed Your Brain Art

From neurographic drawing to grid journaling we will learn art exercises designed to increase your creativity, neuroplasticity and relaxation. You do not have to be a “good artist” to benefit from art making and now there is scientific proof! Your brain lights up when you are making art or viewing it. You can do this for yourself any time you need to relax, slow down and get some clarity. These therapeutic art prompts can go in your self care tool box forever.

Ice Tie Dye Color Journey

Ice tie dye can yield amazing, unexpected results. By using powder dyes and ice cubes we see unique color splits that you don’t get with traditional tie dye. Before we jump into our work we will talk a bit about color and it’s historical meanings and symbolism. Then I will teach you the process outside on my deck, right outside my art studio door. We will color the world-one natural fiber item at a time.

Looking & Listening Carefully - to art!

First presented at the Educator’s Neighborhood Mid-Year Convening, this workshop led by a veteran art educator, will give you an opportunity to tap into your creativity. We will connect the Fred Rogers necessity of learning and growing: the capacity to look and listen carefully - to art making and brain building! Data shows that art making can lower cortisol levels and increase neuroplasticity. But sometimes making art brings out anxieties like “Is this good enough?” This fun, reproducible activity bypasses these feelings by using nonrepresentational art and our imaginations to see more.

Beyond Crafts :

Empowering Patrons to Make Art

Presented: Pennsylvania Library Association state conference 2024, ACLA Youth Services professional development, 2025

In libraries, everyone calls it “crafts”. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it’s art! Anyone can facilitate art making. All ages of patrons can make art. Share ideas for introducing a diverse group of artists and techniques to patrons of all ages. Together we will be empowered to move beyond crafts!
